What Do Historians Do: Twitter

Asks who? Well our very own Chetan Bhagat. (Un) Arguably the dumbest IITian ever, Chetan Bhagat appears to be a sucker for fame and limelight. Or was he trying to please Mr. Modi? What happened was historians in India including the respectable Romila Thapar and Irfan Habib raised their concernj over the recent communal violence in Dadri and elsewhere in a joint statement. The statement released by them says “Differences of opinion are being sought to be settled by using physical violence. Arguments are met not with counter arguments but with bullets.”

Chetan Bhagat Twitter

Chetan Bhagat wants to know what exactly historians do and Twitter is quick to tell him

So what does Chetan Bhagat do. He logs into his twitter account and makes a faux pass. He asks the Twitterati “What do historians do? I am genuinely curious. This happened. Then this happened. Then this. Ok work done for the day.”

And we know Twitterati. They can’t let go of a question of this stupid magnitude unanswered. They responded and what happened was awesome. Such funny, hilarious and mind blowing tweets came out from everywhere that will make you go #ROFL and #LOL. Here I reproduce some of the most hilarious tweets of them all that (actually I am not sure) would have made Chetan feel sorry for the slip.

Twitter responded with a huge resounding crack and came down on the author for his failed attempt at being funny.

It of course ended up becoming a recurring theme among Twitterati.

Today’s Twitter fight followed a similar script. After a firestorm of tweets, Bhagat tried to backtrack and  issued this clarification.

It appears Chetan quickly got his answer on Twitter about what historian do. That’s the power od #SocialMedia you see. You can’t get away with your stupidity :-)

I must say that the last nail on the coffin is this tweet:

On this boring day, something which made me laugh like crazy. Well Twitter has its own reward :-) Did you enjoy this? Do let me know!

Winter's Whisper

Spangmik, Pangong Tso, Ladakh

Ah…Its sleep I should invite

but the winds of winter coming

have another lullaby

I have decided to close my eye

But it is just a dream

Or will we share the winter’s high

Was it was ever meant to be

Or was it a forlorn goodbye

Winter may become like that

cruel, cold, heartless

But sometimes

its the desolate hymn

that betters caressing lullaby

well winter, I welcome you and the memories

you promised but there’s no forts or gardens

it is just the dust of our dreams

that once long ago didn’t needed a chimney

A ride here and there

A whisper…in the ear

Gentle breeze caressing your hair

That was our destination everywhere

Kumbh Mela

My friends say I have springs in my feet. They say so because I could not sit still. I was bitten by the travel bug ever since my first trip (or more appropriately my first trek) to Dodital in Uttarakhand with my college friends.

It’s not that I didn’t use to travel before. As far back as I can remember, I was always traveling, thanks to my dad’s job. I used to explore jungles, hills and streams but those were more of a childish escape e, sometimes from home and later from school.
Traveling took a serious turn after the Dodital trek and every weekend our close knit group of friend would vanish from Delhi to be footloose in Himalayas…we loved Garhwal.

But traveling has taken a toll since I have entered professional life - You see the corporate slave, held on a tight leash.

So out of blue moon, when one of my colleagues proposed that we should go to Prayag Kumbh Mela on one extended weekend, the temptation was simply irresistible.
Here’s a brief intro to Kumbh if you are not aware...

Palace on Wheels Opening ceremony for the season 2013-14

One of the best thing to have happened this month was invitation to the Palace on Wheels opening ceremony. To travel on India’s most revered luxury train Palace on Wheels a long cherished dream of mine. I first heard the name when I joined Indian Holiday Pvt. Ltd.; the organization I work with. Palace on Wheels is the first luxury train to be launched in India in the lines of legendary Orient Express.
